Almond, Honey, Milk and Aloe Mask

The news is in, at 7:25 this morning groundhog Phil saw his shadow. Which means… tun tun tun… six more weeks of winter.

Just when we thought this dry winter spell was almost over the groundhog had to go and ruin it for us! Don’t fret, we have a solution! We understand that with cold, dry weather comes dry, itchy skin, and we’re here to help.

We have an awesome at home face mask recipe that was specially designed by Margo Marrone, owner of Organic Pharmacy in London, to cure all of your dry skin woes.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 teaspoon of organic powdered milk

1 tablespoon of organic ground almonds

1 tablespoon of organic honey

1 teaspoon of organic aloe vera gel

2 drops of neroli essential oil

Preparation:

In a small bowl, mix the powdered milk with the ground almonds, then add the honey and aloe vera. Once everything is mixed together add the two drops of neroli essential oil. Now your facemask is ready to use!

*This mixture makes two to three treatments and will last up to two weeks if stored in the refrigerator.

Application:

Apply the mixture to your face and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes to achieve optimum hydrating effects.

Do it yourself: Hair Mask

Has the dry Arizona air had an effect on your hair? Are you feeling frizzy, funky, or frazzled? If so, this mask is great for you! And even if you’re not, this mask is designed to give volume, shine, health and vibrancy to all types of locks.

Here’s what you’ll need:

One ripe avocado
½ Cup of coconut milk
Three teaspoons of olive oil

Prep:

Mash the avocado in a small bowl. Once the avocado has been completely mashed, add the coconut milk and olive oil. Stir rapidly until everything is mixed together. Place the mixture on your stovetop and heat until it’s slightly warm.

Now that everything is mixed and warmed up you can begin the application process! Apply the mask from roots to ends, massaging it into your scalp. Leave the mask in your hair for at least 30 minutes, and then wash it out.

Your tresses are now ready to conquer the world, no matter what the weather throws at them!

Recipe for an Oatmeal and Yogurt Face Mask

If you would like a fun way to freshen up your skin during the busy work week, we’ve got the recipe for you! The oatmeal and yogurt face mask is great for all skin types and is used to cleanse and rejuvenate your skin.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 tbsp oatmeal, finely ground
1 tbsp organic yogurt
A few drops of honey

Use a small bowl to mix the yogurt and oatmeal. Warm a few drops of honey and stir them into the mixture. Apply the mask to your face and leave it on for about 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Once your routine is done, follow up with some moisturizer and you’re good to go!

Like many women I have always strived to have perfect skin – no wrinkles, pimples, large pores or age spots. Although I have been very fortunate to be acne free I have noticed many un-pleasantries popping up on my face throughout the years. Having just turned 27 I’ve found myself looking at photos of when I was 21 and longing for my younger looking skin. I’ve wanted to kick myself many times for not cherishing my youth and wearing sunblock or moisturizing properly. I was desperate for help, scared of aging, and truly unhappy with the catastrophe that was becoming my face. Luckily, Pucci came to the rescue with their microdermabrasion treatment.

I was thrilled when I learned that Lauren Ballard would be performing the treatment. Lauren has been in the beauty industry since she was 15, trained with Decleor and PCA Skin and has an impressive resume of working with many celebrities, so I knew that I was in excellent hands.

Before we began I asked Lauren to explain all the benefits of microdermabrasion and was excited by what I learned: Microdermabrasion is great for all skin types and colors and is used to clear the skin of impurities, blackheads, hyperpigmentation, appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and appearance of large pores. This hit the nail on the head, I could finally stop worrying about aging, microdermabrasion was the solution to all my woes!

We began with the cleansing process. As I was getting cozy in the super plush treatment bed Lauren turned on the steam and began a custom face cleansing routine that was just right for my skin type. After manually cleaning my face and neck, Lauren used clarisonic technology (clarisonic skin cleansing system uses a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to clean, soften and smooth skin) to add that extra oomph to the cleaning process.

Once she was certain that there was not an ounce of dirt left on my face, Lauren began the microdermabrasion treatment. While this may sound scary and mysterious, it’s really not. The microdermabrasion machine uses a glass, u-shaped tube to spray crystals onto the skin in a gentle abrasion technique that removes the dead outer layer of skin, it then vacuums the crystals up along with the dead skin cells. This procedure is not painful in any way and feels more like getting kisses from a kitten than anything else.

After vacuuming away all of my impurities Lauren performed extractions to be extra thorough. She examined every inch of my skin to make sure that there were no pimples or blackheads left untouched, and when she found them, she made sure to eliminate them upon sight.

Now that my skin was officially free of any type of impurities, Lauren pampered me with a personalized luxury facial mask and a neck and shoulder massage. She finished the treatment by applying the perfect moisturizer for my skin and I was good to go.

My skin was now officially the cleanest and purest that it has ever been and I was shocked to notice that my wrinkles had significantly diminished. This procedure has minimal recovery time and the only suggestion I would give is to not make plans on the same day that you get it done because you will look slightly sunburnt. By the next morning I looked perfectly normal except I had that awesome after-facial glow.

While I am extremely happy with the treatment I received I fully understand that in order to completely eliminate my wrinkles and even out my skin tone I will have to continue with this series (to which I am not opposed one bit!). There’s been a lot of buzz around dry bars lately whose motto has always been: “no cuts, no color, just blowouts”. I never quite understood that, why would anyone want to go somewhere that’s so limited? I would rather visit a one stop shop for my blowout so that I have the option of getting a cut, color, manicure, facial, makeup touchup or whatever else my little heart desires.

Since I am not one to limit my options I visited Pucci Salon in Scottsdale for my first blowout experience, knowing that as far as options are concerned, Pucci certainly had me covered.

My blowout master for the day was Rebecca Marie, a 3 year Pucci veteran and amazing stylist. Hair has been Rebecca’s passion since she was a little girl, and I was more than happy to let her express her artistic ability on my messy locks. I decided to go all out an get curls rather than doing the classic straight look (keep in mind that if you want curls you need to come in with unwashed hair, curls hold better if your hair has some grit to it). After deciding on the right curls for my hair we were ready to go.

Rebecca started out by spraying Oribe Maximista thickening spray on my roots to give my hair structure and volume, which I desperately needed. Then she sprayed some Oribe Foundation mist to even out the product followed by some Oribe Crème for Style to hold the curls in place. She then proceeded to blow dry my hair using a rounded brush. Once my hair was dry, full of volume and smelling like a life of luxury, thanks to the wonderful fragrance of the Oribe products, I was ready for the curling iron.

As Rebecca delicately wrapped each strand of my hair around the curling iron I jumped on the opportunity to find out more about the blowout craze. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that blowouts don’t just last one day, but up to three days instead. How amazing to not have to worry about your hair for three whole days! 2 cups of brown sugar (lightly packed)

½ cup of olive oil (or any plant based oils such as almond, coconut, or sunflower)

1 teaspoon of vanilla (this is purely for scent, so if you prefer something different you can use a tablespoon of your favorite dried herb.)

Get Your Curls Under Control

I am one of those people who has wavy hair, you know the kind that teeters on the fence between straight and full on curly. It just can’t make up its mind about which way it wants to go, so it just sits in the middle, making life difficult. Up until now my hair’s indecisiveness has been a pain, it would take me an hour to try to straighten it and no hair products were ever able to give me curls that looked cute, let alone normal. So as retaliation I had vanquished it into a forever ponytail.

Luckily I stumbled upon some awesome Bumble and Bumble products that made my hair and I quite the happy couple. Here’s the process I used to achieve optimum curliness:

First I washed my hair with Bumble and Bumble’s Curl Conscious Smoothing Shampoo. Then I followed up with Bumble and Bumble’s Curl Conscious Smoothing Conditioner. I was amazed that the shampoo and conditioner alone were able to help my curls take shape right out of the shower!

On Friday, 10/14, Pucci hosted an event for Breast Cancer, and it definitely was a happy hour! It is important to Pucci as a salon, that they have an opportunity to share great foundations and campaigns that get involved or bring awareness on special event nights. This last one “Bee Involved” in correlation with One Hope wine, brought in some fun and fabulous aspects to the evening. The wine from One Hope was a delicious chardonnay where the proceeds from purchase go towards breast cancer research. Rachell Hall the founder of Bridging the Gap Foundation, specializes in permanent makeup, areola/nipple repigmentation, and custom color blending, was in attendance and brought her giant bra! The giant bra brings the fun to charity events allowing people to pose for pictures while passing on donations. Rachell’s organization is dedicated to helping breast cancer survivors bridge the gap between breast cancer and beauty with their final phase of their “Breasthetic” recovery.

Between the wine, food, desserts, and goodies this Happy Hour was a complete success. There was great Greek food, cute cupcakes, and glamorous goodie bags that were given out to everyone! Pucci’s staff was also in attendance at the event and throughout the evening were styling, socializing and supporting. Every bit of help matters and every bit of awareness is essential. Thank You to everyone that came out, and Rochelle Hall for putting together such a powerful foundation for Pucci to support!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Pucci Salon has long been involved in Breast Cancer Awareness, and is deeply passionate about all events that take place for this cause. October is the month where the world takes an even bigger look at the surroundings and support for this cause. This month Pucci will be supporting the “Bee Involved” campaign by Rachel Hall. She is a permanent beauty make-up artist for breast restoration and the founder of Bridging the Gap Between Breast Cancer and Beauty, the non-profit foundation putting on the “Bee Involved” campaign .

Another fun addition to the “Bee Involved” is something called the Big Bra. The Big Bra is literally a giant bra! Rachel Hall thought this would be a fun way to take donations on the spot. It continues to be a proven success as a positive additive to breast cancer awareness, an issue that is generally of a serious tone.

To top all the fun, Pucci is also serving complimentary appetizers and wine called One Hope. They are one of the most recognizable cause brands in the US. This charitable company has grown rapidly over the past three years due to a respected and positive presence in all charitable fields. For their Breast Cancer involvement they have a wonderful Chardonnay available which was co-created by renowned wine maker Robert Mondavi Jr, while half their proceeds go towards charity.

It can be assumed that most people have heard of a facial, and that most women have received one. If you don’t know what it is, or even think that you do already, the extent of how much a facial can benefit you goes deeper than the common known. Facials include a variety of steps and procedures. Not everyone is a celebrity; most people don’t have hours on end or a dedicated staff to produce their look, which is why at the very least you should find a great salon! Achieving a look you might have seen or want to try might not be the best idea to do on your own. There has been a spike in people coloring and cutting their hair on their own time, followed by a spike of horror stories following the at home tries that flood the internet.

Things as simple as a hair style are also best done by a stylist. Short cuts are tremendously contagious right now. A short cut allows for a variety of looks including: short and sexy, sassy and spikey, funky and punky, glam and gorgeous or cute and care- free. It is great for most face shapes, all ages, and is extremely low in maintenance.

Another titanic trend right now is braids and pony tails. Braids can be tight and slicked back, used as a head band, over the shoulder and messy, wrapped into bun, added in smaller version to sections of the hair, and a great way to throw back your bangs. Some of the styles we are seeing on celebs aren’t as easy as one would think! Certain sections and special pinning must be done to achieve these looks, and most importantly the right products must be used. If you try these at home you could end up spending hours only to result in disaster. Taking a trip to the salon for a simple style can be easy on your coin purse and will teach you how to properly put together your pony.

Girls love curls, it’s a known fact, but getting what you want is sometimes unattainable. Curling irons, flat irons, perms, rollers, all can give you a different type of curl; tight tendrils, wavy and whimsical, round and romantic, or crazy and courageous. Knowing how to get each, which products to use, and which tool is best can be confusing and overwhelming. New tools are coming out constantly claiming at home results as seen on celebrities, but the truth is more than one stylist probably worked on that celebrity’s hair. Unless you’re Ursula from the Little Mermaid and have six arms, your look you want can’t be done alone. There are tools you can use at home that do give you some curled looks you love like, Twiddle Stics, but they are best demonstrated by a stylist to show the proper usage and technique.

Pucci has stylists with the knowledge and know-how to complete and teach any look you like. Everything from products from Oribe, Bumble and Bumble, and Twiddle Stics are used and available at the salon. Other avenues of beauty are also conducted every day such as: nails, make-up, and skin care procedures. Street is what savvy, but copying the looks could become a complete mess. Learn the looks before you leap in, and remember a stylist always shows you how to be a show-stopper.

Pucci Salon: A force to be reckoned with

Pucci Salon has decided to take on yet another challenge! In May a few stylists attended the backstage show in Vegas with Oribe. The event was about finding inner freedom of expression as well as creating styles that are beautiful and unique to each. Pucci is holding their own backstage at the salon by inspiring the staff to create their own interpretation from what went on in Vegas. In doing so, Pucci will enter the Oribe contest, “The Backstage Inspiration Challenge”. Pucci has been brain storming on how to shatter the competition. Combining the elements of new wave and old school proved to be the mixture needed for ultimate success. Pucci pulled out all the stops in creating two looks for the Oribe competition. The first one, reminiscent of Rosie the Riveter, appropriately coined “courageous women,” used exemplary figures such as this and others in the work force. The second was a look into the future, strong, “RAW” women, dominating and perseverant. Each look was backed by theme music, 40’s for the first and the likes of Lily Allen, Alicia Keys, and Beyoncé for the second. It was all about getting the ambiance cohesive between the stylist, the model, and the look. Five hair dressers used all Oribe products on the models including: Dry Texture Spray, Soft Lacquer Hairspray, Gel Serum, and finished with both looks representing a femme fatale that will surely kill at Oribe.

Tania and Drew headed this team as the Artistic Directors and participated as power players. Pulling out the big guns and adding support to Pucci was our very own representative Leslie who came in for this special event from California. The stylist had a big task to pull off in entering this competition; like any other competition Oribe has its own set of rules for each applicant. Tania, Drew, and the rest of the staff shined at their skill sets and followed the rules relentlessly, proven by the crowning illustration.

Divided Attention

Tania and Eric here at Pucci have it in their hearts to share whenever the opportunity presents itself. Both stylists attended the Bumble and Bumble Workshop in the meatpacking district of New York. There the stylists were taught by the renowned staff at B&B about technique, style, and progressive trends.

Bringing back a new life experience and advance knowledge, they both decided it was vital to the salon and fellow stylists to pass along what they learned. Tania gave a general overview of what examples from B&B were duplicated at Pucci. The B&B long layered 4 step hair cut is performed with a razor cut at 90 degrees. The razor technique that was taught created a soft yet solid length.

Tania and Eric demonstrated how to create a blunt line with the razor, the different sectioning technique using styling lotion (no clips), and a clean parting that holds the hair place while cutting before letting the hair down. The B&B products used in the first step were Prep and/or Tonic and for step two styling lotion and/or thickening spray. The variation and/or combination of products depend entirely on hair type. The outcome the products help achieve are: encourage curly hair to embrace the spiral by bringing out the sleek bounce, and emphasizes the shape in all the haircuts. The end result is a killer cut allowing a universal look and way to wear your hair.

Here at Pucci Salon we hope that we make a difference every day in the lives of the clients who grace us with their business. Our inner beauty will be displayed through Blue Star Moms of the Southwest Valley, and a donation drive will be held all month to support this cause.

Blue Star Moms of the Southwest Valley is an organization of mothers, fathers, family members, and friends who have loved ones currently serving, or that have served, in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. It is our honor to try and help as much as we can for such an amazing group.

Beauty Secrets of Dancing with the Stars

Pucci Salon had the pleasure of hosting the event, Beauty Secrets of Dancing with the Stars this past Thursday. Pucci created a line-up of products, and sponsors, that made this a ‘don’t miss’ event. If you did however, here is a preview of what went on. M.B. York co-hosted the event, making a very special appearance to share her Beauty Ammo Kit with us. The kit is a three step kit to obliterating the tell tale signs of aging around the eyes. Application of the three products is simple and in about two minutes the skin will be flawless and ready for make-up.

Four more products joined the list of demonstrations that were presented at the event.Opal by Clarisonic, an anti-aging preventative, was a product presented at the event that is revolutionary in its pain free technique. A palm-sized sonic infusion device, the Opal is specially designed to help build skin's resilience over time and prevent future damage around the eyes. It produces immediate reduction of fine lines. Bumble and Bumble Workshop

Recently Pucci sent two of our top stylists, Tania and Eric to the Bumble and Bumble Workshop. Located in the meatpacking district of NY, Bumble not only sells and provides the first looks in recent and up-coming hair styles, they also teach! The Bumble workshops give insight to technique, style, and progressive trends. Those attending the event had the chance to work closely with the stylists that are directly involved with Bumble and Bumble, to learn, experiment, and examine. Besides the cutting sessions, tools for other aspects are discussed: theory, training, consultation skills, and product knowledge.

Our two stylists, already impressive at their craft, went to better their knowledge of cuts and styles. Bumble also provided live models, thorough knowledge of products, detailed feedback, and advice for future development to make sure our stylists walked away with as much knowledge as they could carry. Events such as these continually take the stylist from level to level. In an industry that is ever changing and progressing, it is imperative to stay on top of the trends and new looks. There is something to learn about every area involved with a salon. Pucci knows all to well that building up your stylist helps them know exactly how to do your DOO!

Road to Rejuvination

In beauty there are always little tips and secrets to looking younger and healthier. Some people know them and some people don’t. Here are some myths’ and the must haves when it comes down to rejuvenating your look. Here is a brief summary of everything that should be discussed about different areas and myths. It is true that some procedures/products do not work. Procedures like eye lash extensions, tinting, and certain facial procedures can be effective if performed by professional. While working in a salon gives you experience to do these procedures the best administrator or leader of any company providing these services should be an aesthetician, which applies to our salon. Now that you are well informed here are some of the must haves to look twenty years younger. The most dramatic and effective services offered at Pucci that focus on facial youth is the Microdermabrasion w/ peel. The peel helps with fine lines and reduction, while the microdermabrasion resurfaces the skin by getting the dead layers off.

Waxing gives you a fresh feel to your entire body; intimidating as it seems to some you’ll love it after you try it. Hair removal opens up the pores nicely enabling proper exfoliation which creates a glowing hue and outwardly transfers into a younger look. Being smoother and soft makes you feel lighter and more energized. It is not certain if the next statement is a myth or not, but in the beauty world it is something that is followed by many. Lighter hair makes you look younger. An easy way to achieve this is to get a quick highlight or go a shade or two lighter. At the salon there are a variety of color options: partial and full highlights, hair coloring, and color correction.

Last but not least women can make themselves look older just by not knowing how to wear their make-up correctly. In make-up there are things that can be pulled off through each decade of your life, and then there are things that need to stop. Women generally find something that they like and stick with it, but as they age they also have to find change. A one hour make-up lesson and application at the salon will allow the client to see their transformation and well as teach them new tricks and provide the essential knowledge of looking their best at any age. In the end all these things are fun and relaxing. It is about finding enjoyment in beauty and loving ones-self. Everyone is beautiful, but looking your best takes steps!

Drew Noreen: Oribe Las Vegas 2011!

Well here I am, back at home in Scottsdale, Arizona thinking about a MIND BLOWING weekend spent expanding the mind and soul beyond what I had ever imagined! It was all do in part to a wonderful contributor to our industry, Mr. Oribe himself.

Arriving in Vegas Saturday night, it was straight to the Hard Rock Hotel and then off to LAX at the Luxor for an opening get together party. Through the crowd and up the stairs, music blasting and dancing the whole way, we made our way to the VIP area. I could instantly tell we were in the right place! Fabulous hair, stunning makeup, tattoos, eclectic outfits, drinks and cigarettes… yep, these are my people!! Even though I was screaming "WHAT" the whole time, I was able to meet and connect with most of the amazing people we were to share this experience with. Even better about meeting all of these people, was being able to share our most favorite products, experiences and loves of and for our industry! (It was also great people watching! Believe me when I say no one knows how to express their individualism more than a hair dresser)!

Sunday began at the Rehab pool party where we hung out at the SKYBAR, a second floor 'VIP' pool. Again, there was a fantastic mix of people from all over the country and some even the world. The atmosphere provided heart pounding music, great people watching and oversized chez lounges. There was a pool with clear acrylic cut outs in the bottom and the end of the pool had a clear acrylic wall over looking the Rehab party below. It truly was a day of dancing and fun in the sun. We even rented a hooka while lounging around with our newly made friends! I mean, after all, it is Vegas! Mean while, as we are partying away, Deb and Paco were in an owners forum where they shared stories and advice with other salon owners about how to grow and develop their business. In addition there were multiple speakers who had come out to amp up the owners and bring a new light to running a salon. Everything was covered from how to create the perfect environment geared towards your salons specific clientele to running promos and of course financial management. After all, this is the time to build economic sustainability within our business, owners and stylists alike.

Later that night we head downstairs to the Muse Hall where we were greeted by smiling faces and a professional photographer as we walked through the doors. Inside there was a full open bar to get us started, along with a wide array of snacks from popcorn to french fries. You could also find awesome memorabilia from the show and some awesome new products at the Oribe pro shop. I bought Gun Metal Color Creme. A magical concoction of silver creme and metallics to take your doo to the next level! After finding our seats at a table right in front of the stage, we settled in with much anticipation. The lights dimmed and the music came on (and with a great video to match)…. 'What's new pussy cat… Woooah wooah'…. This was to be the theme of our evening and our hands on experience the day to follow. The curtains opened with lights flashing and waiting on stage were three 'pussy cats' and then out came Oribe! Everyone cheered with excitement! Here he was the man that we all had been waiting to see. What followed was a MIND BLOWING show that showcased some of his best and most creative looks. We were presented with everything from classic sets to black light painting. Turbans to jelly fish and even a leopard print wig (which I wound up purchasing). Finally an outfit completely made of white tool and one of HAIR! Hands down my favorite part of the show was the jelly fish. Not sure if it was due in part to the prior cocktails or just the shear beauty of it, but I was literally moved to tears. When the show closed and after receiving a standing ovation, we made our way over to the Vanity Night Club, where we all shared in celebration with a complimentary glass of champagne!

Monday was here! It was the BIG day! TODAY WAS THE HANDS ON EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME! Here we all are. Deb, Paco, Christopher, Lauren and Becky were observing and Tania and Myself were both Artistic Directors. As we were getting introduced to our models, Oribe was on stage giving us a great pep talk before we all got started. First there was a quick set up of our tools and a demo. We were going to recreate the Vidal Sassoon classic 5 point cut, but with TWENTY!! We began by doing a wig wrap and placing a wig cap on our model. Then went on the jet black asymmetrical bob. Next was the fun part, with no sectioning allowed, we began cutting as many points as we could into the wig. As we were nearing the end, Oribe stood up on stage and yelled, "I WANT TO SEE THE TOPS OF THE EARS! THEY'RE SEXY! MAKE IT SHORTER", and off we went! By the time we had finished cutting our wigs we were left with a super modern, tapered, infinite point pixie cut. Next we pulled out a clip on pony tail, which completely amused me. We were to attach it to the top of the wig and then cut it shorter to blend the two pieces together. As Oribe said, "Vidal Sassoon took the volume out and we are going to put it back in"! We were going for the feel of the 'Artichoke' style. Originally debuted by Mastey in Paris in 1958 and then made famous by Elizabeth Taylor in the early 1960's. The look was completed by doing our models makeup (which was provided) and tying a sheer yellow ribbon into the hair. Using our black rubber capes, we created an outfit or accessory with a unique and vintage feel before it was off to an on site professional photog, who snapped a picture of our models as we finished.

Here came the most exciting and creative part, in my opinion. On our stations, which Oribe reminded us to keep "clear and organized", was a tub of White Rock Hard Gel. Before we got started he yelled into his microphone, "PRETEND TABATHA IS COMING DOWN THE HALLWAY, RIGHT NOW! SHE'S COMING TO CHECK YOUR WORK STATIONS"! In reality, he wanted us to be able to see our inspirations, which were printed on table length paper runners. As he began his demonstration he explained that true inspiration for this look came from all of the controversy surrounding the 'end of the world' and this was to be the creation of a 'New Race'. We were creating an alien-esque feel by pulling through, and completely covering the models heads with our sticky white gel substance. It was an anything goes kind of application. The more we could add to the hair the better. The stranger the shape the better the result. Remember, this is a whole new breed of people we were creating. By the time we had put as much of the gel into the hair as possible, it was our turn to play with the white tulle. There was an infinite amount of possibilities for placement. I attempted to weave mine into the hair while others were using it for everything from full on outfits reminiscent of a bridal gown to collar pieces and head dresses that would have fit in perfectly at the Royal Wedding. Finishing our final look we placed clear skin toned masks over the models face. The idea was to give the illusion that they all had this flawless almost botoxed skin. Everyone looked alike, but not one was the same.

Wrapping our amazing weekend was a showcase fashion show put on by all 100 something models that we had completely transformed from start to finish, head to toe. Our Becky was even pulled aside to be used as a model for the final, futuristic look. It was her first time ever modeling as well as being on stage. Needless to say she was nervous but she totally rocked it and blended in seamlessly with all of the other models. After the last model had exited the stage and the runway was over, Oribe came out for a few closing words and of course to honor Judy, his amazing and long time… sure to be LIFETIME assistant!

He was greeted by a roar of cheers and I love you's followed again by a standing ovation before walking through the crowd followed by a spot light, cigarette in hand. A predictable exit for the man himself but none the less a memorable one. As the spot light fades and he disappears into the dark, we all start to make our way back to the lobby. To everyone's excitement, there he was, posing for pictures after almost a week in Vegas, smile one his face and not one complaint. A humble man to say the least. The night ended with a cocktail party, (what else?), to say farewells to all of our new friends. Some of whom I felt I had known forever and others I was just meeting for the first time, sharing our favorite parts of the weekend and then saying a quick "Hi" and "Bye" with a friendly chuckle.

To say the least, I came home with inspiration BEYOND inspiration, if that is even possible. I had pushed myself to go outside of the box, both as a stylist and in myself as an individual. I built friendships for a lifetime and memories that are sure to last even longer. There is a whole new perspective that has been brought to my world and I'm going to inject it into every nook and cranny I can find. This includes recreating my experience, both physically and in words, with everyone of you! To bring my passion and love and inject it into anyone who wants to share in the joy that is our career, a beauty professional. As Oribe said himself, "There is a pussy cat in all of us, you just have to let it out!" MEOW!

Paco: A Parallel Universe

It’s all about inspiration, style, references, and professionalism. That’s what it is for me anyway, hairdressing that is. When I lived in New York City I seemed to get it...kind of like osmosis. All I had to do was look around and I was impacted by what was there, but I always referenced my work. I think most of us do though. What does that mean? We get a picture from somewhere, you know, a magazine advertisement for shoes but the model had great hair. For color it could be old movies like Bridget Bardot in “God created Women” with sexy, blonde, long wavy hair. Jane Fonda’s short choppy shag in “Klute” which was very edgy at the time. Julie Christies cute inverted bob in “Shampoo” and of course Mia Farrows famous Sasoon pixie in “Rose Mary’s Baby”. There are countless rock n’ roll references in my head. Mick Jager, Beatles, Joan Jet, Rod Stewart, and the many looks of Madonna. As for fashion I always “Did the Flip” for Linda Evangelista... what a chamaeleon. You see, you have to have a reference. Whether it be a photo in your brain that will inspire you to create it, mimic it in your own way, to customize it on your model client. Now you have to apply your skill, your talent, experience and knowledge, to finally create something beautiful! Hey, you could get inspiration rom a kid working at the local coffee joint or movie theater. It really doesn’t matter where you get it, as long as you get it! That’s why I love people watching, you never know who your next new reference will be. I know I “get it” everyday from working with great hairdressers.

The amazing thing for me and in my career has been relocating to Scottsdale, Arizona. I walked into an incredible place, SALON PUCCI. There I met fabulous people, talented artists, and a true sense of professionalism. I knew I was “home”. It was strange and to be honest, looking back a little scary, but a good feeling. I was getting inspired by clients, and co-workers simultaneously. There was a weird feeling that came over me. It felt like I was transported, I mean like “beamed up” as in Star Trek to a parallel universe. All the same people but with different names and different faces, but also so cool and beautiful, all in one.

Working with great artists beside you , a creative environment for me is key. It’s all about the end result and “kicking it up a notch”. You have to still revert to your memory banks to conjure up your references and re-invent your looks. Incredibly, you keep developing new ones, Katie Perry, Christina, I’m not so sure about Justin Bieber, HA HA!
Seriously, environment is so important for me as an artist. Salon Pucci is a think tank for creativity and a breeding ground for young talent..and not so young as well. It is my parallel home and a place full of energy that inspires you to “doo it” better.

That is how some of my brain works, the process to translate whatever my vision is to someone’s hair. I think I speak for a lot of people at Pucci in saying that we need to keep moving forward and become visionaries in our own way. Royal Wedding Celebration

Thanks to everyone you came out to Pucci on Friday, April 29th for our Royal Wedding Celebration. We shared drinks, laughs, and memories with many of our favorite clients, co-workers and friends as we watched Kate look beautiful as she stepped out of the car in her gorgeous white dress and full veil. Her sister Pippa held the bride’s long train as she made her way down the aisle to her waiting Prince. After exchanging vows and hearing a series of songs and speeches, they departed in a horse-drawn carriage as the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Finally, they arrived at Buckingham Palace, where they shared the first (and second) kiss as bride and groom upon a balcony overlooking thousands of anxious onlookers. It looks like some of us may have had a little too much wedding fever.

Doing Doo's for the Schools!

Over the last weekend, Pucci had the honor of preparing more then 200 gorgeous doo’s for the Xavier Fashion Show. The fashion show put on by Xavier College Preparatory showcases these young women as they’re given the chance to dress up in incredible costumes and have a blast looking beautiful.

More then that, it’s an incredible learning experience which lets them see how fashion events are put together and executed, and helps them build the confidence they will need to help them achieve when they’re older.

Needless to say, we are always excited to give back to our community in a way that benefits our future generations.

The girls (and moms!) loved every bit of it as the event went off without a hitch. The feedback from the parents and families from Xavier and Brophy, who were also in attendance, was better then we could have ever hoped for.

Because we enjoyed this service so much, we’re offering students from Xavier a 20% discount on preparation for their upcoming prom (which is even better news for the Brophy boys!).

The girls looked great and felt great about their fashion show, and we’re proud to be a part of that. Needless to say, we’re certainly excited for 2012!
